Overview
Planeat ("we", "us", "the app") is a meal-planning app for households. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Planeat, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app, and we never sell your personal information.
By using Planeat you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Data we collect
Account information
Planeat uses Google Sign-In to create your account. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and Google profile picture from Google. We use this to identify your account and let household members recognise each other. We do not receive your Google password.
Household and meal data
This is the content you create in the app, including:
- Your household name and the members or helpers you invite
- Your weekly meal plans, recipes you save or create, and notes
- Grocery lists generated from your plans
- Language preferences for you and your cook/helper
- Optionally, a cook/helper's WhatsApp number — stored only if you choose to add it, so you can share the plan with them on WhatsApp
Device and usage information
To keep the app working reliably we collect basic technical data such as device type, operating system version, app version, and a push-notification token (see "Third parties" below). We may collect anonymised, aggregated usage statistics to understand which features are used.
How we use your data
- To provide core features — saving your meal plans, generating grocery lists, and syncing them across household members and helpers.
- To show the meal plan to your cook/helper in their chosen language. To do this we generate regional-language names for dishes, which involves sending the dish name only to a third-party AI translation provider (see "Third-party services"). No personal, account, or household information is sent.
- To send notifications you've enabled (for example, a reminder of the day's plan).
- To keep the app secure, diagnose problems, and improve features.
We process this data to deliver the service you've requested and to operate and improve the app. We do not use your household or meal data for advertising, and Planeat does not show ads.
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run Planeat:
- Google Sign-In — to authenticate your account. Google's handling of your data is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — to deliver push notifications to your device. This uses a device token that does not identify you personally.
- AI translation providers (DeepSeek, Anthropic) — to generate regional-language names for dishes so your cook/helper can read and hear them. Our servers send only the dish name (for example, "Poha") — never your account details, household data, or any personal information. These providers may process the request on servers outside India, and use it solely to return the translation.
- Planeat backend — our own servers store your household and meal data so it can sync across devices and members. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties except as needed to provide these services or where required by law.
Data retention
We keep your account and household data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data as described in the Account & Data Deletion page, typically within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be retained.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access and edit your household and meal data from within the app.
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated data.

Deleting your data
You can delete your account and data directly in the app, or by request. Full step-by-step instructions and the deletion timeline are on the Account & Data Deletion page.
Children's privacy
Planeat is intended for adults managing a household. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Planeat after changes means you accept the updated policy.
